Desiree Eatmon, RYT 200

About the Founder: Desiree's Story

Desiree Eatmon is dedicated to teaching survivors of human trafficking to heal themselves through therapeutic yoga, somatic movement, deep inner parts work, breathwork, and meditation. She is passionate about sharing the techniques which helped her on her healing journey. Desiree herself is a survivor of human trafficking.

Raised in poverty by a single mother, Desiree experienced homelessness often living in a series of hotels. At age 13 she was kidnapped, raped, and forced into sex work on the streets of San Francisco, California. After two years, she suffered a psychic break and called emergency services risking the anger of her captors. With the help of an EMT, she escaped in an ambulance unaware she was pregnant by her abuser.

Two weeks after her 16th birthday, Desiree welcomed a joyful baby boy into  her life discovering a newfound purpose in motherhood. Even as she committed to being the best mother possible, she struggled with the aftereffects of trauma.

Desiree reunited with her family and began her recovery journey with their help, and with the help of trauma recovery groups. She also resumed her education, which she saw as an important part of building a new life. Her formal schooling had been interrupted by her abduction when she was still in middle school. Desiree completed a high school equivalency diploma (GED) and went on to earn an Associate of Arts Degree in Public Service & Paralegal Studies. Her career as a Commercial Real Estate Paralegal now spans over 22 years.

During her recovery journey she struggled to find resources specifically for survivors of human trafficking. She was introduced to yoga by friends and fell in love immediately, finding the missing spiritual piece of her life within its practices. She sees yoga as a path of connectivity to the Divine - the innate essence within that connects all living things. Desiree teaches that yoga isn’t something done only on a yoga mat but is a lifelong practice incorporating the Eight Limbs of Yoga* into everyday life. Her training includes 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training from I AM YOGA CLT (Charlotte, North Carolina), 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training (Tantric Studies) from Vira Bhava Yoga (Asheville, North Carolina), Reiki Certification from All Things Spiritual (Charlotte, North Carolina), trauma informed training from The Prison Yoga Project (Los Angeles, CA).

Desiree, now the proud mother of three, is continually inspired by her children, especially her eldest who is now 25 years old. She remains active in the legal field while offering a healing practice to trauma survivors with an emphasis on helping survivors of human trafficking.

* The eight limbs of yoga, as outlined in Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, are a comprehensive guide to a yogic life, encompassing ethical disciplines, physical practices, and mental and spiritual development. They are: Yama (moral disciplines), Niyama (observances), Asana (postures), Pranayama (breath control), Pratyahara (sense withdrawal), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation), and Samadhi (absorption or enlightenment).
